WATCH: Truck rolls down embankment after Comaro – leaves one dead

A truck overturned and rolled down an embankment at about 02:27 early on Friday morning (February 17) after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

The fire department in Alberton arrived on the scene where they were directed by bystanders to the scene of the accident. Only one lane remained open and the accident caused major traffic delays as far back as Xavier from about 06:30. Local authorities advised the scene would be cleared by 09:30 and all lanes reopened.

WATCH:

Daine Jones, communications officer of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spoke to the CHRONICLE saying that upon further investigation only one fatality was reported. “The truck rolled down the ditch and was carrying a load of Parmalat milk cartons. The fire department used hydraulics and special equipment to free the driver’s body from the truck and he was then taken to a morgue,” said Jones.

The cause of the incident remains unknown and Ekurhuleni Metro Police are continuing investigating the matter.
This accident follows another fatal accident that happened no more than three weeks ago along the same stretch after Comaro Road. A total of five light motor vehicles and two trucks were involved in that collision and one person was trapped in his vehicle.
