Although it was not the outcome the Springboks were hoping for when they arrived in England, they managed to regroup after their semi-final defeat to New Zealand and win a bronze medal.

The Springboks did not take long to record a score when they put points on the board with a try from JP Pietersen in the first five minutes of the game. With Pollard displaying great form in the first half, his 11 points helped the Springboks to a 16 – 0 lead at the end of the first half.

The Argentinians struck back with a drop goal from Sanchez early in the second half, however, the Springboks swiftly replied with a try from Eben Etzebeth, which ultimately secured a victory for the South Africans.

The Pumas were rewarded with a try in the last minute of the game after their continued attack in the second half, although it was a little too late.

The match was potentially was the last for players such as Victor Matfield, Schalk Burger and Bryan Habana; all of whom have represented South Africa with distinction over the years.

The Rugby World Cup will be decided on Saturday October 31 when New Zealand take on Australia at 18:00.
