The protesters entered the chambers and smashed the speakers glass table.

Councillor Faeeza Chame cut her arm open and another pregnant councillor collapsed on the scene.

According to ANC Greater Johannesburg Spokesperson, Julidee Matongo, Mashaba refused to accept a memorandum from protesters who were also joined by Jozi Bread owners and Mushroom Farmers.

The protest is alleged to be led by members of the [email protected] programme which the Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, is planning to cancel.

DA ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler reported: “We are under attack by the supposed [email protected] protestors. Councillor Faeeza Chame was injured by shrapnel.”

Council proceedings will continue as per normal as soon as the situation is under control. The chambers are surrounded by police and JMPD.
