Park your car in the yard

A MAN was hijacked outside his girlfriend’s house, in Kenilworth, on June 12.

The complainant was driving his vehicle in Kenilworth at 9.40pm when he stopped and parked outside his girlfriend’s house. He alleged that he phoned her to come out of the house because he was waiting for her.

While he was talking to her on the phone, an unknown man approached the car and knocked on the driver’s side window. The suspect pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to get out of the vehicle.

The suspect then climbed into the vehicle and drove away.

This is only one such case that has been reported to Booysens SAPS recently.

On numerous occasions, the management of Booysens SAPS has warned the community about sitting in a parked vehicle on the pavement or in driveways, saying they make themselves targets for criminals.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Captain Lorraine van Emmerik said if you need to phone and let a person know that you are outside waiting for them, rather phone them before you leave and give them a time that you will be there to collect them.

“Also please rather park your vehicle and go into the house to have a conversation with each other. This method of hijacking cars is happening at any time, day or night. It is usually one or two suspects involved,” she said.
