The platform is yours, shine!

“Spring has passed. Summer is gone. Winter is here…And the song I meant to sing remains unsung, for I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument.” – Rabindranath Tagore

“Like the sand through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives.” You have heard these words a number of times before, but never took them to heart. If you have never heard them before, now you have. They simply mean that our lives flow away swiftly just like the grains in an hour glass.

Each of us is born with a special, unique and melodious ‘song’ which we have to ‘sing’ to make the world a better and more bearable place to live in. The trouble though, is that the vast majority of us are forever procrastinating – we put off building the instrument that will deliver this soothing song. Building this instrument requires vision, time, dedication and commitment, as well as constant motivation and drive. When you say, “I’ll do it tomorrow, I’ll do it when I am ready, I am feeling too tired today to do it, I am waiting for so and so or such and such…,” you are procrastinating.

The main reasons you have not built your instrument yet, are:

1. You have given yourself permission to live a life of laziness.

2. You are dedicating your precious time to useless tasks.

3. Wasting time on self-imposed servitude to thankless people – meaning you are wasting your time serving people who don’t appreciate you at all.

4. Worrying about what other people think of you. Vincent van Gogh said, “When I sleep I dream my painting and when I wake up, I paint my dream.” So, what do you paint when you wake up? Are you busy building your instrument which will produce the song that will sooth the world and generations to come? The platform is all yours, take it away!
