THE Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) will officially open the online application on April 16 at 8am, parents need to log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
At the media briefing, MEC Panyaza Lesufi urged the parents to heed this call of applying early to avoid last minute rush and disappointments.
“Parents are urged to apply on time so that we can also do our planning properly. The system has been modernised, it is fast, convenient and easy to access,” he said.
Only parents applying for Grade One and Grade Eight learners and those relocating from other provinces can apply. Parents may apply to a maximum of five schools per child. There are four application options that a parent can use to apply: home address, work address, sibling or previous school (applicable for Grade Eight only).
MEC Lesufi said the parents need to have reliable mobile phones as an automated SMS will be sent to the parent’s phone to confirm the submission of the online application.
The online application cannot be used to apply for learners going to Grade R or special schools. Parents are required to apply at the school. Learners who are currently enrolled for Grade R at the school must also apply online for Grade One at the school, admission is not automatic.
Online application period for Grade One and Grade Eight only: April 16 to May 28.
Placement period: July 18 to September 28.
