Women self-defence workshop a success

SUBMISSION MANOEUVRE:The ladies were also taught how to put someone in a submission hold.

THE country is plagued by women abuse so Elsa Zurich held a self-defence workshop for women on June 9 at the Walkerville Fruit Farm in Plantation Road to teach women how to protect themselves.

Most of the women in the communities can’t defend themselves, so the workshop’s objective was to reach out to those women. Judging by the turnout of Saturday’s workshop, it is looking good going forward. The most important thing that the women were taught was to defend themselves from rape and violent abuse.

TEACHING: Captain Hennie Bouwer shows the ladies at Walkerville Fruit Farm how to challenge perpetrators with a weapon in their hands.

Zurich said: “Captain Hennie Bouwer, who conducted self-defence lessons, held an excellent workshop and all the ladies who were present learnt a lot. We will do this more often until we make a difference. This is what God wants His children to do. He wants us to love each other enough to help and care.”

For more information about workshops, contact Elsa Zurich on 082 819 0661.

WATCHING: Ladies watched as captain Hennie Bouwer showed them how to overcome strangulation.
