[GALLERY + VIDEO]: Celebrating Arbor month at Glenvista Primary School

IN commemoration of Arbor month, Glenvista Primary School was the proud recipient of fifty trees which were donated by Keller Williams Counter Act Bassonia.

On September 6, special guests Catherine Constantinides (Miss Earth founder and an environmentalist), Irini Moutzouris (Miss Earth 2018) and Margo Fargo (Miss Earth SA international representative) as well as Keller Williams, Counter Act Bassonia staff, Sarah Wissler (Ward 23 councillor), Khume Ramulifho (Shadow MEC for Education in Gauteng) and members of GANSRA (Glenvista and New South Residents Association) gathered at the school for the tree planting ceremony.

TIME OUT: Catherine Constantinides captures a moment in time.

Addressing the school learners, staff and invited guests, principal Arnold Oliphant said what a great privilege it was for their school to receive such a wonderful donation of trees.

“Children are our future and so are trees,” he said.

Wissler spoke and said how proud she was to be part of this beautiful day.

EXCITED: The school children sit in the garden and parking lot to watch the proceedings.

“We have some wonderful people in this community and Keller Williams, who have sponsored these trees are also giving so much more to the school, investing in its future.”

Catherine Constantinides stood before the children and asked them what is important about trees and what do they give us? The children answered, “Fruit, flowers and oxygen.”

She went on to say, “One day when you may come back to this school to visit, you will see these small trees all grown, providing shade for the learners, how great will that be.”

Keller Williams Counter Act Bassonia has adopted Glenvista Primary School as a project and not only donated the trees but will be making a vegetable garden in the school grounds, as well as putting in netball courts and a soccer field. When this was announced the youngsters whooped in delight.
