SIR John Adamson High School has been involved in girls rugby for the past five years and the sport is ever-growing at the school.
Girls rugby is the fastest growing sport in South Africa and the school is witness of this in many ways. When they started girls rugby at the school, they initially only had enough players to field seven a side teams.
Sir John Adamson’s teams have grown in leaps and bounds and this year they had enough girls to participate in the u-16 and u-18 divisions with a full 23 squad in each age group.
The Golden Lions Rugby Union started a girl’s league for schools. There were 18 schools that entered this league and Sir John Adamson is very proud to be the winners of this prestigious league.
Three u-16 girls and three u-18 girls from Sir John Adamson were selected to represent the Golden Lions at the National Youth Week which was held at Jeppe Boys High School.
The vice captains from both the Lions teams were from Sir John Adamson. The girls played excellent rugby. Their coach Mickey Oosthuizen was also the team manager at this tournament. At the National Youth Week more than 760 girls participated from all over South Africa.
